We were saddened to hear of the passing of Attorney R. Christian Haufler on January 14, 2017. Christian was a staple presence in the South Shore legal community for decades, and was known as both a formidable litigator and widely admired businessman whose Norwell-based law firm provided a business model for small firms south of Boston to emulate. We had numerous hard-fought cases with Christian and his team of very capable associates over the years. He was a funny man, always quick with a joke, who loved his fellow attorneys and practiced law fearlessly.
Haufler passed away after a fierce struggle with cancer. From his obituary:
HAUFLER, R. Christian Jr. 64, a respected family-law Attorney of Haufler Associates, died peacefully at his Marshfield home on January 14, 2017 surrounded by the love, care and comfort of his family and friends following a courageous battle with cancer.
Raised in Scituate, he was the son of the late Elizabeth R. (Kelly) & Attorney Robert C. Haufler, Sr. He graduated from Tilton Prep School class of 1970 and Ripon College class of 1974. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School in 1978, and received additional Trial Certifications from Harvard Law School, the American Academy of Trial Lawyers and many more associations. Christian was a Member of the Massachusetts and Florida Bar Associations, and served his Country with honor as an Officer in the US Army, Military Intelligence Branch.
An avid boater, sport fisherman and hunter, Christian was also passionate about conservation of natural resources. He was a former Chairman and Committee member of the Minots Ledge Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and was directly responsible for raising over a million dollars for wetlands conservation and sportsman habitats. His closest friends and family will always remember his caring, selfless ways and his big heart. In Christian, you could have no better friend or wingman.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Christian’s family and many friends.
